What Is The Difference Between Companion Care, Licensed Home Care, and a Certified Home Health Agency?

Companion service is classified as a Non-Medical Care – helping with such activities as meal preparation, laundry, housekeeping, medication reminders, escort to appointments and errands, cueing of personal care needs, safety monitoring and friendly conversation.

Licensed Home Care is classified as Personal Care – it expands upon companion services, providing ‘hands on’ care to include personal care, bathing/ grooming/dressing; feeding and nutrition; ambulation and exercises; case management; and ongoing clinical assessment.

Certified Home Health Services is Clinical Care – it expands upon the licensed home health services, providing extensive clinical care often after post acute illness or hospitalization.  It may include diabetic/wound care, rehabilitative therapy (PT, OT, Speech), cancer care, pain management, chronic disease management, and medical case management.
