Donna Gelder-Bigelow, FH Volunteer, Receives Statewide Recognition!

2016 NYSTRA volunteer award Donna Gender-BigelowIt’s an honor to recognize one of Fort Hudson’s dedicated volunteers, Ms. Donna Gelder-Bigelow!

Last week, Donna received the 2016 New York State Therapeutic Recreation Association (NYSTRA) Volunteer Of The Year Award.

Donna has been volunteering at Fort Hudson for the past (8) years. She started after her mom, a resident of Fort Hudson passed away. Donna wished to continue her connection with the residents and staff of Fort Hudson, as she knows how important volunteering is to the residents of our facility. She offers a variety of help, including visiting (10) residents weekly, supporting the Resident Gardening Program with annual planting of the “entrance flower pots”, and annually coordinates with her local Church to provide Christmas gifts to residents who would otherwise not receive anything.

Donna (pictured with Daniele Fish, Director of Recreation Therapy/Volunteers) was recognized on April 10, 2016 at NYSTRA’s Annual Award Banquet, held at The Holiday Inn Saratoga Springs, NY.
