About 8 months ago, Fort Hudson applied for Department of Transportation (DOT) funding for the purchase of 2 wheelchair accessible vans; one to replace an aging vehicle, and one for expanding service. Recently, our grant was approved at the state level, and is expected to have final funding approval at the federal level in February.
The grant provides 80% of the cost of the vehicles, which total almost $40,000 each. The 20% facility match is being made by the Fort Hudson Foundation.
Transportation is one of the most important services we provide, supporting the needs of clients in home care, day services, The Oaks and nursing center. Our six current vehicles log over 100,000 miles in total per year. As each vehicle is custom made, we expect delivery in late 2012.
